If you think someone who abuses his girlfriend or wife is weak, then what do you think of someone who stands by and lets it happen? You can be the buddy, the teammate, the brother who finally stands up and says something. Get involved. Say something anything but whatever you do, don't be silent.

You just wanna use me / You say 'love' then abuse me / You never thought you'd loose me / But how quickly we forget / That nothin' is for certain/ You thought I'd stay here hurtin' / Your guilt trip's just not workin' / Repressin' me to death / Cuz now I'm choosin' life, yo / I take the sacrifice, yo / If everything must go, then go/ That's how I choose to live

What kind of love… would black your eye? / What kind of love… every night make you cry? / What kind of love… make you wish he would die? / Love is blind, and it will take over your mind / What you think is love, is truly not.

My boyfriend of four years gets very angry and yells at me and on some occasions he hits me or strangles me... I think if I could get him out and get some help that I can get on my feet and be fine here. I just don't know where or how to do it. - Crystal, 24

That's how it started... From there it got darker and darker, his desire for control became harder for him, 'till finally it was violence, frightening and all very dramatic. I'd like people to realize that anybody can get themselves into that kind of situation. I hate it when people say, 'Oh, she was weak, that's how it happened.' It has nothing to do with that.

I know what it is like to have everything taken away from you at 18. But I also know what it is like to have someone stand up for you and help you get your dreams back. And now I’m part of that effort too.

The key to handling abusive relationship is education. Not having the right information hindered me because I couldn’t identify the problem, and if you can’t identify the problem you can’t identify the solution.

We need awareness, we need help, it goes on everywhere, abuse breaks all barriers, crosses all cultures, sexualities, economic levels, age groups—we can end the pain, I ended my own and now I can help others end theirs.

I finally got out of it! But a day before I dumped him he charlie horsed me twice in my leg and left a bruise there. It's gone now. My counselor told me a lot of the same stuff you told me so I guess I just had to get out. Thank you!

I never imagined this could happen to me. I remember how we learned about domestic violence in my health class, but I was just like 'Okay, what does this have to do with me? That’s never going to happen to me.' But it did happen.

Before Break the Cycle’s presentation I did not really know what dating abuse meant and the difference between a healthy relationship and an unhealthy relationship. No one teaches teens what a healthy relationship is supposed to be like; it’s not something our teachers talk about in school and none of my friends feel comfortable talking about these kinds of issues with our parents.
