Sometimes the support teens need doesn’t come from parents or professionals, but from teens themselves.
The Community Action Theatre Team (CATT) of Santa Susana Magnet High School for the Performing Arts has found a way for teenagers to reach out to each other through art. In the last seven years, over 300 students have come together to write plays about suicide, dating and domestic violence. CATT members are also trained peer counselors.
Through sharing these stories with youth around southern California and one-on-one peer support, the Community Action Theatre Team has become a unique voice rallying the youth community through support, understanding, and art.
