Y.O.U. Students Step Up!

July 02, 2009

Y.O.U.Emerging student leaders at Y.O.U. (Youth Opportunities Unlimited) Alternative High School in Los Angeles, California took part in five-week project where they learned about teen dating abuse and developed their own ideas for presenting to their peers about the issue.

Students Corrinn Hanley, Jennifer Farias, Tikara Sapp and Sandra Marquez worked very hard over the course of several weeks to put together a complete and informative presentation that helped spread awareness about dating violence by speaking on the warning signs, types of abuse, cycle of violence, challenges to getting out of an abusive relationship and helping a friend in need. The group also used their creativity to design their own “About Dating Abuse” pamphlet with information and resources.

The presentation brought together a group of their peers who also participated in a question-and-answer session with the student presenters. The audience not only walked away with pamphlets, but also with a greater understanding of dating abuse and an even greater respect for their peers.

Break the Cycle salutes the Y.O.U. student leaders in helping us spread the message that everyone has the right to a safe and healthy relationship, free from violence and free from fear.

From Break the Cycle, thank YOU!
